The idea of going to Kaohsiung came very suddenly. My friend casually asked, “What’s fun in Kaohsiung?” I said I wasn’t sure – and somehow, we decided to go anyway.
We first headed to Taipei Main Station, then took the High-Speed Rail (高鐵) to Zuoying Station, and from there, we continued on the red line into Kaohsiung city. The whole journey took around three hours.
Taiwan is entering one of its hottest time right now. In Taipei, every time I step outside, I can’t avoid sweating. But once we arrived in southern Taiwan, I immediately felt the coastal air.
The climate in Kaohsiung is cooler, yet surprisingly more refreshing compared to Taipei. Even though the sun was just as strong, it somehow felt easier to breathe here. To be honest, we didn’t really plan what to do.
After lunch, we just took a bus to the seaside and sat there. I forgot the name of the place – only that it was near a university by the sea.
My friend kept teasing me: “Why don’t you come work in Kaohsiung after graduation? It feels like this place suits you more than Taipei.” I only laughed.
Maybe I was a little convinced – but who knows what will happen yet.
The high-speed rail ticket to Kaohsiung was over 1400 NTD. Including meals and transportation, each of us spent nearly 3500 NTD that day.
I joked, “We basically came all the way to Kaohsiung just to breathe its air for a bit
and then went home.”
If I visit Kaohsiung again, I’ll definitely explore more places – and maybe stay a few days
to really feel what life is like here.
Kaohsiung, hope to see you again.

This photo was taken in Kaohsiung, but if I don’t say, no one will know
